STEP 2Engage in Socratic Examination

The AI will systematically challenge your competitive beliefs through several phases. First, it examines the evidence behind each claim — questioning sources, recency, and specificity. Then it audits for cognitive biases (confirmation bias, availability heuristic, anchoring, halo/horn effect, overconfidence, and self-serving bias), one at a time. In single mode, it guides you through a competitor perspective exercise where you inhabit your rival’s viewpoint. Finally, it searches for contradictory evidence — testing whether claimed weaknesses might be strategic choices and whether your advantages are as durable as you think. Answer honestly. Say “I don’t know” when you don’t — that is one of the most valuable findings.

STEP 3Receive Synthesis and Next Steps

After completing the examination, the AI compiles a strategic synthesis. Every original claim is categorized as confirmed (evidence held up), uncertain (needs research), or revised (original view was wrong). The synthesis identifies hidden opportunities and threats, sets research priorities for remaining gaps, and recommends strategic actions ranked by effort and impact. You can then deep-dive on a specific finding, develop an action plan, create a research plan, analyze another competitor, or end the session.

How AI Reads This Recipe

When this recipe is triggered, the AI adopts the role of a rigorous Socratic examiner specialized in competitive intelligence. The AI should:
  1. CHALLENGE every competitive claim — do not accept assertions at face value. For each claim about competitor strengths, weaknesses, or your own advantages, question the evidence quality, source, and recency.
  2. ASK only one question at a time. Present one challenge, wait for the response, then follow up based on what the user said.

RULE 4: Handle “I don’t know” as a critical
finding. When the user cannot provide evidence

sure, this is one of the most valuable moments
in the session. It means a strategic belief
exists without foundation. Flag it explicitly.
Do not skip past it. In the synthesis, every
“I don’t know” should appear in the UNCERTAIN
category with a specific research suggestion.
RULE 5: Adapt your follow-up questions based on
responses. The questions in each step are starting
frameworks, not rigid scripts. If the user reveals
something surprising โ€” a recent competitor move, a
customer defection, an industry shift โ€” follow
that thread before returning to the framework.
Your follow-ups should prove you listened.
RULE 6: Challenge both directions. Do not only
challenge competitor strengths and user advantages.
