End a CRAFT session

CRAFT Tutorials · Getting Started · 4 of 12

When you’re done for now, you want to stop in a way that lets next time pick up smoothly. CRAFT makes that one sentence.

Before you start: this is the bookend to the previous post, Start a CRAFT session. Starting loads your memory; ending saves it.

The one sentence

Save a handoff.

Claude writes a short note into your project’s communications/ folder describing where things stand and what’s next. Then you can safely close the session.

That’s all “ending a session” needs to be. The next time you open the project and start a session, Claude reads that note and resumes right where you stopped.

✓ You’ll know it worked when Claude confirms it saved a handoff and tells you where (a note in your communications/ folder). That note is your bridge to next time.

A simple habit

  1. Finish what you’re doing — or reach a natural stopping point.
  2. Say Save a handoff.
  3. Close the session.

You never have to summarize the session yourself — that’s exactly what the handoff is for. If you made changes you care about, you can also ask Claude to “save my work” first.

Good to know: a handoff is just a short, plain note — you can open it and read it any time. There’s nothing locked or hidden about it.

That’s the clean stop. So how does next time actually pick it back up? That’s the next post: Continue your last CRAFT session.
