CRAFT License
CRAFT License – At a glance
Welcome to the CRAFT for Claude Cowork license. Before the full legal terms below, here is a plain-English summary of what governs your use of CRAFT for Cowork. CRAFT for Cowork is the methodology layer for Claude Cowork that organizes recipes, cookbooks, and personas into a structured framework. CRAFT for Cowork applies production-systems discipline to its licensing model: the CRAFT Language Specification (the syntax and structural patterns documented in our framework) is licensed under the Business Source License 1.1, and the CRAFT content (recipes, cookbooks, personas, and documentation) is licensed proprietarily to members. This summary is for convenience only — the binding agreements are the full license texts further down this page.
The CRAFT Language Specification is licensed under BSL 1.1 with a transition to Apache 2.0 (full open source) on January 1, 2029. BSL 1.1 is a time-limited license: today, you can use the language for almost any purpose — including building your own tools — except offering a competing AI framework authoring platform or prompt engineering service as a commercial service. Starting January 1, 2029, the language becomes Apache 2.0 with no remaining restriction. The full BSL 1.1 text appears at the bottom of this page.
The CRAFT content (recipes, cookbooks, personas, templates, documentation) is proprietary and licensed to members of CRAFT for Cowork. Member usage rights are intentionally generous and perpetual. As a Small Business member (annual revenue of $1,000,000 USD or less AND ten or fewer employees — the formal definition appears in Section 1 below), you can:
- Create whatever you want with CRAFT for Cowork recipes; no attribution required
- Use recipes for any personal, internal-business, or client purpose
- Modify recipes to fit your own work
- Use recipes as part of paid services you provide to clients (consulting, agencies)
- Continue using recipes after your membership ends
A few restrictions apply, narrowly drawn:
- Don’t redistribute, copy, or sell our recipes themselves
- Don’t post recipes publicly (forums, repos, websites)
- Don’t build a competing framework or platform using our content
- If your organization exceeds $1M in annual revenue OR has more than 10 employees, contact us at support@craftframework.ai before using the Content (an Enterprise license is required)
This page works alongside the CRAFT Terms of Service — the Terms govern your use of the website and Service; this License governs your IP rights to CRAFT content and the CRAFT Language Specification. The complete proprietary content license appears below, followed by a frequently-asked-questions section. The full Business Source License 1.1 text closes the page.

CRAFT FRAMEWORK LICENSING FAQ
Last Updated: April 30, 2026
Questions about what you can and can’t do with CRAFT for Cowork? Check below. For issues not covered, email us at support@craftframework.ai.
General Questions
Q: What is CRAFT for Cowork’s licensing model?
A: CRAFT for Claude Cowork uses dual licensing. The CRAFT Language Specification (syntax and patterns) is under Business Source License 1.1, becoming Apache 2.0 open source on January 1, 2029. All content (recipes, cookbooks, personas, documentation) is proprietary and licensed to members for use without attribution.
Q: Why dual licensing?
A: We want the language itself to become open source so anyone can build on it. The recipes, cookbooks, and content represent ongoing engineering work and are what makes membership in CRAFT for Cowork valuable.
Using CRAFT for Cowork Content
Q: Can I use CRAFT for Cowork recipes for my business?
A: Yes. Members can use recipes to create anything for personal or business purposes.
Q: Can I use recipes for client work?
A: Yes. Freelancers, consultants, and agencies can use CRAFT for Cowork recipes as part of services they provide to clients.
Q: Do I need to credit CRAFT for Cowork when I create something?
A: No. No attribution is required.
Q: Can I modify recipes for my own use?
A: Yes. You can adapt and modify recipes however you need for your own work.
Q: Can I keep using recipes after my membership ends?
A: Yes. Usage rights are perpetual and not tied to active membership status.
Restrictions
Q: Can I share recipes with others?
A: No. Recipes are licensed for your own use as a member of CRAFT for Cowork. Others should obtain their own membership.
Q: Can I sell CRAFT for Cowork recipes?
A: No. You cannot sell, resell, or commercially distribute the recipes themselves. (You can charge for the work you create using the recipes — see the License Grant in section 2 above.)
Q: Can I post recipes publicly?
A: No. Recipes should not be posted on public websites, forums, or repositories.
Q: Can I build a competing platform using CRAFT for Cowork content?
A: No. You cannot use our content to create a competing framework or platform.
Business Size
Q: What counts as a Small Business?
A: An individual or organization with BOTH annual revenue of $1 million USD or less AND ten or fewer employees.
Q: What if my company grows beyond the threshold?
A: Contact support@craftframework.ai to discuss an Enterprise license before exceeding either threshold.
Q: Do Enterprise organizations pay more?
A: Yes. Organizations exceeding the Small Business threshold require a separate Enterprise license with custom pricing.
The CRAFT Language
Q: What is the CRAFT Language?
A: The CRAFT Language Specification — the syntax, comment protocols (like #H->AI::), object patterns, and structural rules that form the foundation underneath CRAFT for Cowork. For example, the comment notation #H->AI:: is part of the CRAFT Language. Anyone can use this syntax to organize their own AI work in Claude Cowork; the Language itself is licensed under BSL 1.1.
Q: Is the CRAFT Language open source?
A: Not yet. It is under Business Source License 1.1 until January 1, 2029, when it becomes Apache 2.0 (fully open source).
Q: Can I create my own tools using the CRAFT Language?
A: Yes, with one exception — you cannot create a competing AI framework authoring platform or prompt engineering service as a commercial service.
Q: What happens in 2029?
A: The CRAFT Language Specification becomes Apache 2.0 licensed (fully open source). At the same time, the competing-platform restriction expires — meaning you can build a competing AI framework authoring platform or prompt engineering service without restriction starting January 1, 2029.
